Ice Fishing Trip at Seipäjärvi – in an Authentic Village Setting
Here you will experience the silence and peace of an authentic old Lappish village — a place filled with history every single day. You will see how we live and have lived for generations. The house offers history, art, and you will also meet our furry friends, dogs Netta and Hertta, who join us on the ice fishing trip (and almost every activity!). No matter the weather, the trip takes place — just like our life here, always depending on nature.

During the trip, we will guide you on how locals go ice fishing. No previous experience is needed. If you wish, we can even organize a friendly competition. You may also see local people ice fishing or practicing other forms of winter fishing. The peak ice fishing season for locals is March–April.
An open fire in the hut ensures warmth and comfort
At the lakeshore hut (kota), a fire is burning throughout the trip, ensuring you stay warm and comfortable.
Program Content:
* Welcome greeting and presentation of the historic Old Village Store.
* Before going onto the ice, we check safety and give instructions to ensure safe movement.
* The fishing spot is about 100 meters from the store, reached by walking downhill to the lakeshore.
* The lakeside hut offers warmth, hot drinks, local pastries, and sausage grilling — all included in the price.
* The hostess Virve or another local will transport fishing equipment and the dogs by snowmobile and sleigh.
* You’ll spend about 1.5 hours ice fishing.
We provide:
* Fishing stools with reindeer hides for seating
* Ready-drilled holes
* Fishing rods, bait, and full instructions.

* Access to the lakeside hut and open fire

Program starts on Tuesdays at 10:00 with pick up from Hotel Sodankylä. Transportation to Seipäjärvi village (60 km from Sodankylä). Enjoy the activity and drop off is around 15:00 to Hotel Sodankylä.

Reservations and cancellations
* Reservations and cancellations at least 2 days in advance
Suitability:
* Suitable for almost all ages who can walk independently
* Distance: 100 m downhill to lakeshore
* No previous ice fishing experience needed
Restrictions:
* Trip is not organized if temperature falls below -25°C or during strong winds (risk of frostbite as fishing requires bare hands and sitting still; fishing holes and lines freeze quickly).
* Early and late season: ice thickness and safety are checked individually.
* If fishing is not possible, alternative activities can be arranged.
Required Equipment:
* Warm winter clothing (including gloves, hat, and warm footwear).
